This painting is called ‘In the Clouds’ and will be part of a group show with The Saints of Paint, benefitting the Appalachian Barn Alliance, on June 3&4. It’s a scene from Max Patch, the bald in Madison Co. along the Appalachian Trail that got a lot of attention a couple years ago for being trashed and overused by campers and partygoers. It was closed to camping and other damaging activities so that it would have a chance to recover, and it’s doing just that! It’s a beautiful spot that is often swirling with clouds, which is what I tried to show in this painting.

While the pandemic has dragged on, I have been busy making new plans. My partner and I are going to head out on the open road, traveling the country while living out of a converted bus. This entails a lot of work, which is what we've been up to most of this year so far. The bus is acquired but still has a ways to go to be livable. In the meantime, I'm downsizing and selling lots of art. If you see something you like here, or on my Etsy shop, reach out and let me know. I'm not inclined to put much artwork in storage! “A Pastoral Palette—the Barn Whispers its Memories.” A Gala Art Show benefiting The Appalachian Barn Alliance & The Saints of Paint at 36 Montford Avenue in Asheville. Event will have a sampling of food from local restaurants, beer and wine for the $45 ticket price ($40 for members). Art for sale—painted by local artists of the barns of Madison County. This year we're partnering with The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, they do amazing work to help the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, 'providing support for initiatives along the 469-mile route, including historical and cultural preservation, environmental protection, visitor amenities, and educational outreach.' The opening night is October 26th, at historical Zealandia mansion on Beaucatcher mountain. The show will continue over the weekend. Hours are 11-5 Saturday and 11-3 Sunday. I hope to see you there!  We have another outstanding group of artists who will present paintings and drawings based on the French Broad River. The event will be held again at the Zealandia mansion in Asheville, an outstanding venue in which to show some beautiful work. The opening gala is Friday, Oct. 27, 6-9 pm, and is ticketed. The show will be open to the public also on Saturday and Sunday, 11-3 each day. In partnership with Riverlink, we offer these works for purchase to raise money for a fantastic non-profit that has done so much for the river and continues to work to enhance awareness and advocate for the health and vitality of the river corridor. Tickets for the opening night gala are available on the Riverlink website. All ticket sales and a portion of proceeds from sold artwork go to Riverlink.  We are doing another fundraising event for Appalachian Wildlife Refuge on June 11 2017 at The Boathouse in Asheville. There will be 14 artists in attendance, with artwork for sale, and many will be painting during the event. Birds of prey will be there, with a trained rehabilitator to answer your questions. It's a beautiful spot for an opportunity to showcase the amazing efforts of Appalachian Wildlife Refuge and support them by purchasing some amazing art! The Boathouse is the event space next to Smoky Park Supper Club, and will be serving brunch. There is a large lawn by the river and children are welcome!  I'm looking forward to the third annual Of Time and the River show, a benefit for Riverlink. All work from 20 artists are based on the French Broad River, many painted on location.  I am excited to have just hung paintings, along with John Mac Kah and Paul Blankinship, at Chiesa restaurant in Montford. The show will be up through September 21, but the opening reception is Tuesday, July 28, from 5-7. The cozy Italian restaurant is in a former church, and is a lovely space, with homemade pasta and now with beautiful art on the walls.
You may have noticed that my last name is different. I have finally resumed my original last name after borrowing one for a number of years. Of course, as an artist, there are extra challenges involved in this name change situation. As my name is my brand, I am reluctant to confuse those who have come to know me as Christine Dougherty. So I am in the process of changing all my marketing materials to be consistent with my current and forever name, Christine Enochs. Please bear with me, and feel free to give feedback. I'm certainly not the only one to have gone through this!
